A Dark, Dirty Cloud Over Utah

Over ninety percent of Utah’s electricity comes from burning coal. Instead of diminishing our dependence on this heavily-polluting source of energy, plans are afoot to increase it.

Plans are being brought forward for four new coal-fired plants. Utah’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) has granted permits to two of these plants: one near Sigurd, and one new generating unit at the Intermountain Power Plant near Delta. Additional plants are proposed near Castle Dale and south of Vernal. More information about these proposed plants is in the table below.
